Lebanon is marking the 10th anniversary of the death of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, an event which plunged the country into political turmoil.
Hariri, a Sunni Muslim politician, was killed along with more than 20 other people on February 14, 2005, in a bombing in Beirut.
His followers, family, and many Lebanese politicians converged on his tomb in Beirut in remembrance, as his picture lined the city's streets.
His son Saad Hariri, also a former prime minister, arrived in Lebanon overnight for a surprise visit.
Speaking before a crowd of thousands, he called for the Iranian-backed Shi'ite group Hizballah, implicated by a UN-backed tribunal in his father's killing, to withdraw its fighters from Syria.
"Stop spreading Syria's fires in our country," he added.
The younger Hariri left the country in 2011 after his government was toppled by a coalition including Hizballah.
He is now based in Saudi Arabia and France.
