Information on the above-mentioned subject was provided by the Greek League for Women's Rights, in a fax received by the DIRB on 17 March 1995. According to the league, there is a lack of protective services available to victims of spousal abuse in Greece. There is one women's shelter housing up to 10 women and 20 children. It is operated by the General Secretariat for Equality and the Athens Municipality. The league provides legal advice and counselling services to women regardless of country of origin. According to the league, protective services that include health services are available, in principle, to non-Greek women who come from European Union countries, as well as to women of Greek origin who have emigrated from Albania. However, these women may not be aware of the assistance available.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
