Armed men in Iraq seized and later released a senior Sunni politician in Baghdad.

Police said armed men raided the home of Riyadh al-Adhdah, the head of the Baghdad Provincial Council, late on July 25 and took him and several of his bodyguards away.

An Iraqi official told AP and Reuters that Adhdah and his four bodyguards were released on July 26.

It was unknown who the kidnappers were or where al-Adhadh was taken.

Adhdah is a member of Mutahidoon, the main Sunni Arab bloc in parliament.

In 2012, he was imprisoned for eight months on charges of funding insurgent groups.
