According to the Europa World Year Book 1991, Greece has international airports in Athens, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, Corfu, Lesbos, Andravida, Rhodes, Kos and Heraklion/Crete (1991, 1218). The source adds that a new international airport has been planned for Spatsa, near Athens (Ibid.).

A member of the information staff of Olympic Airlines in Montreal stated that most airports in Greece handle international flights, particularly during the summer (3 Apr. 1992). The source stated that the airports handling scheduled international flights of Olympic Airlines, Greece's largest airline, are in Athens, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Heraklion/Crete and Chania (also in Crete), although the airline may schedule international flights to other airports this summer (Ibid.). Finally, the source indicated that even small airports and airstrips may handle international flights depending on the season and the size of the aircraft, as every year many chartered and private airplanes enter Greece (Ibid.).

An attaché of the Embassy of Greece in Ottawa stated that nationals of countries which are members of the European Community do not necessarily have their travel documents stamped upon departure from an international airport in Greece (3 Apr. 1992). The source added, however, that it would be standard procedure to stamp the travel documents of nationals of other countries upon their departure, for control, security and/or statistical purposes (Ibid.). According to the source, the practice of stamping passports may vary depending on the airport and circumstances (Ibid.).

Additional and/or corroborating information on the subject could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC.
