The Israeli government has announced that it is scrapping visa requirements for Georgian citizens.
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin told journalists in Tbilisi on October 31 that the decision would take effect as soon as all technical formalities were settled.
Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze said the visa-free travel to Israel for Georgian citizens with diplomatic and official passports will come into force in one week.
Georgian citizens holding regular travel passports will be able to travel to Israel without visas in several months, after agreements are signed and come into effect.
Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said that he initiated mutual visa-free travel between the two countries during his visit to Israel in June.
Tbilisi cancelled visas for Israeli citizens several years ago.
