According to the consular officer of the embassy of Angola in Ottawa, conscription was in place between May and September 1994, and was enforced according to provisions 1) and 2) of article 152 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Angola (8 July 2002). There is no detailed system in place for conscientious objectors, and conscription is a duty of all male citizens of Angola between the ages of 18 and 30 (ibid.). Exemptions are possible on a case by case basis (ibid.).
