Tajikistan's ruling party on Friday nominated longtime President Emomali Rahmon to run in the November 6 presidential election.

Rahmon, 60, has ruled Tajikistan since 1992.

He was nominated for a fourth term at a congress in the capital by the People's Democratic Party, which he heads.

Rahmon did not respond to the nomination and was reportedly unable to attend the congress "due to his busy schedule."

Six other candidates have said they will run for president.

The Central Election Commission will announce a final list of candidates on October 7.

Rahmon won the 2006 election with more than 70 percent of the vote, although the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe noted a "lack of real competition."
