A representative of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Ottawa states that Saudi nationals who wish to marry foreign women are required to apply for permission to the Saudi authorities (1 Oct. 1992). The government of Saudi Arabia considers the marriages of Saudi nationals who have not obtained permission to be illegal. These Saudi nationals are required to "legalize" their marital status in Saudi Arabia by going to court if they wish to bring their families to Saudi Arabia.
The representative declined to provide information on the legal status in Saudi Arabia of those children whose fathers have not obtained permission.
