Information on guerrilla activities in El Salvador in 1995 could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, a news item attached to this Response reports that Salvadoran media received a communiqué from a source calling itself Fuerzas Guerrilleras Nacionalistas El Salvador Libre (Latin American Weekly Report 9 Nov. 1995, 12). According to the report, the communiqué announced that the alleged group would launch "political and military action (against) capitalism and imperialism" (ibid.).

For information on the status of guerrilla and armed forces in El Salvador since the 1992 peace accords, and the ongoing divisions and regroupment of former guerrilla groups, please consult the DIRB Indexed Media Review (IMR/RPI) available at your Regional Documentation Centre.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below a list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
