The former chief of Georgia's military police, Grigori Dgebuadze, has been arrested in the Netherlands at Tbilisi's request.
Georgia's Prosecutor-General's Office said on July 1 that officials in Tbilisi are now working on Dgebuadze's extradition.
Georgian authorities issued an international arrest warrant for Dgebuadze in March 2013, accusing him of exceeding his authority, illegal confinement, and organizing torture.
Dgebuadze served as the chief of the military police of the Georgian armed forces' staff until then-President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement party lost parliamentary elections in October 2012.
Dgebuadze fled the country after a number of investigations were launched against Saakashvili associates after his party was defeated in the poll.
