A representative of the Ethiopian Community Centre in Washington, D.C., stated during a telephone interview with the DIRB (19 october 1992), that the present government has not absorbed former high or low-ranking diplomats. Some former ambassadors and chargés d'affaires have sought political asylum in Western countries while those who have returned to Ethiopia have been detained. The Human Rights Watch World Report 1992: Events of 1991 states that high ranking officials in the former regime are held in detention camps. The report further states that high ranking officials are held in Yekatit 66 Political School and describes the conditions there as "extremely good" compared to "poor and overcrowded" police stations, and neighborhood and provincial prisons where other detainees are held (Ibid., 51). Additional information on this topic is currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa.
