The following information was provided during a 27 May 1999 telephone interview with a journalist who is in charge of reporting on southern Lebanon for the Beirut-based English newspaper The Daily Star.

The journalist stated that SLA members convicted to a death sentence in absentia by the Military Court have been high-ranking officers. They were convicted for their role in the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon, their collaboration with Israeli forces and the repression of Lebanese civilians in the occupied zone.
