Georgian Defense Minister Mindia Janelidze has made a visit to Afghanistan to meet with Georgian troops stationed there.

Georgia's Defense Ministry released a statement on January 3 reporting Janelidze was in Afghanistan in time to greet the New Year with troops from Georgia's 51st battalion stationed at the Bagram air base near Kabul.

Janelidze addressed the troops, thanking them for their service and stressing the importance of their mission in Afghanistan.

Janelidze also met with officials from Afghanistan's Defense Ministry.
