A representative of the Canadian embassy in Ethiopia indicated in correspondence to the Research Directorate that they verified the letter attached to the Information Request with a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (Canada 14 Mar. 2008). According to the Representative, the senior official indicated that he was "very surprised" by the content of the document and had never heard of it, but that "'[i]t does look legitimate'" (ibid.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
