Development and Justice is described as a break-away group of Cruzada Renovadora (Renovation Crusade) in the Province of San Juan; it contested the national deputy elections of 1997, where it earned 26.3 percent of the votes and one seat (Guía Electoral 4 Nov. 2001). In 1999 elections it formed an electoral alliance (frente) with the Justicialista (Peronist) party (ibid.).

In August 2001 Development and Justice, described as a provincial political party of San Juan, reportedly announced Jorge Abelin and Laura Bruno as its candidates for the upcoming national senate elections, while Ricardo Penate and Mariela Gay de Publiese as candidates for the national deputy elections (Parlamentario.Com 27 Aug. 2001). The electoral results gave the party 7.89 percent of the votes in the senatorial elections, and 7.47 percent of the votes in the deputy elections (Terra 14 Oct. 2001).

In 2001 Jorge Daniel Turon, described as a provincial deputy of the Development and Justice party, reportedly announced – along with Justicialista deputy Francisco Alcoba – his support of the Falklands War veterans pensions demands (Página 12 1 May 2001).

In March 2002 Development and Justice reportedly was represented in the National Assembly by one deputy, Arturo Moreno Ramirez (Parlamentario.Com 12 Mar. 2002). In a report of La Nacion, he is described as part of a group of "right-of-centre" legislators who signed a letter criticizing the "indecision" of the government and the Justicialista party (22 Nov. 2001).

Political Parties of the World provides little information on Development and Justice: the party is listed under the heading of "other parties," its email address is given ([email protected]), and the president of the party is listed as Arturo Jorge Moreno Ramirez (2002, 19).

No information was found on the treatment of members of Development and Justice among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints.
