Lydia Cacho, Mexico's most famous investigative journalist (and an ARTICLE 19 international board member) has lived with death threats since she became a reporter in 1986 and started writing about violence against women.

After decades of attempts to intimidate her, it wasn't until July 2012 that Lydia felt compelled to leave her country after receiving a threat on her satellite radio. A man told her she was a "fucking bitch" who had ignored his warnings, concluding, "We are going to send you home in pieces."
