Kosovo's Prime Minister Isa Mustafa has called his Slovenian counterpart to ask for the release of a Kosovar opposition leader detained on a war crimes warrant issued by Serbia.
Mustafa's office said on June 18 he had spoken to Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar by phone, asking him to allow Ramush Haradinaj to return to Kosovo "as soon as possible."
Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo party, is a former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army who served as prime minister in 2004-05.
Haradinaj was arrested at the airport of Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana, on Serbia's arrest warrant issued in 2006.
He was later released by police but his passport was seized pending legal procedures.
Haradinaj is wanted by Belgrade on charges of committing war crimes against Serb civilians during the 1998-99 Kosovo war.
A UN war crimes tribunal cleared him of similar charges.
