Turkmenistan has said it plans to "widen" diplomatic ties with Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz presidential press service said on July 15 that President Almazbek Atambaev had met with Turkmenistan's visiting foreign minister and deputy prime minister, Rashid Meredov.
Atambaev and Meredov reportedly discussed further cooperation between the two countries.
According to the press service, Meredov arrived in Kyrgyzstan to "widen" diplomatic cooperation between the two Central Asian states.
Earlier this month, Ashgabat announced its intention to set up an embassy in Bishkek.
The Kyrgyz Embassy in Ashgabat has been functioning since 1994.
Turkmenistan is the only country in the region that requires citizens of other Central Asian nations to obtain a visa before entering.
Currently, Kyrgyz citizens have to travel either to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, or Almaty, Kazakhstan, to obtain a Turkmen entry visa.
