A fourth man has been charged in a terrorism case involving raising funds to send U.S. residents to join Islamic State fighters in Syria.
Dilkhayot Kasimov, an Uzbek citizen living in New York, was named along with three previously charged defendants at a federal court in Brooklyn on April 6.
Kasimov is charged with conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization.
Prosecutors say Kasimov worked closely with Abror Habibov to raise $1,600 for Akhror Saidakhmetov to travel to Syria to join the IS group.
Saidakhmetov, 19, was carrying cash when he was detained at Kennedy international airport in New York on February 25 as he was to fly to Turkey.
Court documents say Kasimov admitted giving the money to Saidakhmetov and knew he would be traveling to Syria.
Saidakhmetov, Habibov, and Abdurasul Juraboev – all immigrants from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan – pleaded not guilty after being charged last month.
