The following information has been provided by the Directeur de cabinet in the Ministry of Security of Côte d'Ivoire during a 26 April 1999 telephone interview.

All Ivoirian passports, including those of diplomatic and consular representatives must be stamped with an 'exit stamp' when the holders leave the country, from an airport, for any period of time. This rule also applies to all foreign passports.

This information was corroborated by the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire in Ottawa during a 26 April 1999 telephone interview. The following is the description of the 'exit stamp' at the airport Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan (ibid.):

République de Côte d'Ivoire

Direction générale de la SN [Surêté nationale]

Sortie: date [to be completed]

DRG- ST [Direction régionale-Surveillance du territoire]

Aéroport Felix Houphouet-Boigny.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
