Austrian police say the 71 dead migrants found last week in an abandoned truck were Syrian, Iraqi, and Afghan nationals.
Hans Peter Doskozil, police chief for the province of Burgenland, said on September 4 that the victims probably suffocated on Hungarian territory shortly after entering the lorry, whose refrigeration system was not working.
Doskozil said no identities have yet been established and forensic work will continue for weeks to definitively establish the cause of death.
The truck was found on August 27 on the safety lane of the main highway from Hungary.
