Iranian President Hassan Rohani has sharply criticized Saudi Arabia, accusing Riyadh of "providing financial assistance and weapons to terrorists in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq."
In a speech on April 18, Rohani attacked the Saudi-led coalition air strikes against Shi'ite Huthi rebels in Yemen. Earlier, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the air strikes amount to "genocide" and "a major crime."
"You planted the seeds of hatred in this region and you will see the response sooner or later," Rohani said, addressing the Saudi royal family.
Saudi Arabia has accused Tehran of providing weapons to the Huthis, a charge Iran denies.
Iran has presented a four-step peace plan for Yemen to the United Nations that calls for an immediate cease-fire, humanitarian assistance, and a national dialogue leading to "the establishment of an inclusive, national-unity government."
