The Research Directorate found no reports identifying incidents of mistreatment of Christian Albanians in Montenegro among sources consulted.

Albanians constitute approximately 7 per cent (PER 7-8 Apr. 2000, 21; ibid. 3-4 Dec. 1999, 6) of an estimated population of over 600,000 in Montenegro (Europa 2002 2002, 4449; IFRC 26 Sept. 2002). The United States Department of State's International Religious Freedom Report 2002 mentions instances of vandalism and reported harassment against the Church of Christ (Pentecostal) and Jehovah's Witnesses in Montenegro (US 7 Oct. 2002). This report does not specify the ethnicity of the complainants. Recent Responses concerning the treatment of Christians in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia include YUG40785.E of 28 December 2002 on Seventh Day Adventists and YUG34791.E of 29 June 2000 on Ruthenian Catholics. The situation of Albanians in Montenegro was most recently the subject of YUG29193.E of 21 April 1998.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
