President Ashraf Ghani says Afghanistan and the United States have mutual interests at stake in the fight against terrorism.
Ghani landed in Washington on March 22 on his first official visit to the United States since taking office.
"The threats that we are facing on a daily basis, were they, God forbid, to overwhelm us, will threaten the world at large," he told CNN.
Ghani also paid tribute to the thousands of American troops who have been killed or injured fighting in Afghanistan.
Ghani, traveling with Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, is due to hold talks with President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry.
Talks are expected to focus on a range of issues, but largely on security matters.
Ghani will also address a joint session of Congress.
