Russia is sending two planes to Beirut to evacuate Russian citizens from Syria.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said two of its planes were scheduled to fly to the Lebanese capital on January 22 to bring back more than 100 Russians from Syria.
Russia has been a key ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since the uprising against his regime began in March 2011.
The Russian announcement came as Arab League chief Nabil al-Araby said the mission of the UN and Arab League special envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, had not yielded "a flicker of hope" to end the bloodshed in the country.
The UN estimates more than 60,000 people have been killed in Syria's 22-month conflict.
