Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Zakir Hasanov, have discussed bilateral military cooperation between the two countries during talks in Baku.

Media reports in Azerbaijan and Russia say the ministers also discussed ways to resolve the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict over the disputed breakaway Azerbaijani region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Shoigu was quoted as saying during the August 15 talks that Moscow-Baku military ties "need adjustment," adding that security in the Caspian region is of a great importance for neighboring countries.

Hasanov said Shoigu's visit "is of significant importance for the development of bilateral military cooperation" between the two nations.

Shoigu arrived in Baku on a two-day working visit on August 14. He met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev upon his arrival.
