The following information was provided to the DIRB by the Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Ottawa during a 24 November 1994 telephone conversation.
A Greek work permit does not confirm any legal status to its holder except the right to work. Holders of work permits are not entitled to any political rights such as the right to vote. However, foreigners holding work permits enjoy the same civic rights as Greek citizens, such as access to health care services. For further information on the status of foreigners in Greece, please refer to Response to Information Request GRC17497.E of 9 June 1994.
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
