In correspondence received by the Research Directorate on 24 April 2002, the executive director of the Kaisahang Buhay Foundation (KBF), a centre for unwed mothers in Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer 4 July 2000), wrote that "based on inquiries made with the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Office of Legal Affairs and the Department of Labor (DOLE), Bureau of Women and Minors and Legal Services, there are no discriminatory provisions on the hiring of unwed mothers in the Philippines."
Attempts to contact other organizations that provide shelter and care for unwed pregnant women and mothers in the Philippines were unsuccessful within the time constraints of this Response.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
