Libyan fighters have raised the new transitional government's flag over the oasis of Bani Walid and hoped for the swift fall of the other remaining places still controlled by Muammar Qaddafi.

National Transitional Council military commanders said they met heavy resistance from Qaddafi loyalists in Bani Walid, 170 kilometers southeast of the capital, Tripoli.
