The Somali Islamist militant group Al-Shabab says foreign special forces attacked a house in one of its coastal bases overnight south of Mogadishu, killing one rebel fighter.
The group says the attack was carried out by "Westerners" who arrived by helicopter in the town of Barawe, about 180 kilometers south of the capital.
It was not immediately clear why the Barawe base was targeted specifically.
In September 2009 a daylight commando raid carried out by Navy SEALs in Barawe killed six people, including Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, one of the most wanted Al-Qaeda operatives in the region.
The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabab group has said it carried out an attack on a Kenyan shopping mall two weeks ago that killed at least 67 people.
