Kazakhstan's security forces have detained three terror suspects in the country's largest city, Almaty.

Kazakhstan's Committee for National Security (KNB) said on October 11 that those detained were planning a series of terrorist acts against law-enforcement officials.

KNB investigators said in a statement that they found parts used to make explosive devices and detonators, as well as extremist literature in the suspects' possession.

In June, Kazakh authorities said a group of 25 alleged Islamic militants carried out a series of attacks that killed five civilians and three members of Kazakhstan's security forces in the northwestern city of Aqtobe.

Security forces who confronted the group killed 18 gunmen and arrested seven others.
