A facsimile sent to the DIRB on 14 June 1996 by a lawyer with the firm Attorneys-at-Law Mikijelj & Jankovic in Belgrade states:

The Chamber of Citizens of the Federal Parliament of Yugoslavia has passed the Law on Amnesty on 14th May 1996. Before taking effect, this Law has to be approved by the Chamber of Republics, which is due to convene on 18th June 1996.

For information on the above-mentioned Law on Amnesty, on the lawyer and on the sentences rendered by military courts for crimes under articles 214 and 217 of the Yugoslav Penal Code, please consult the attached facsimile. Further information on an amnesty could not be found among the additional sources consulted by the DIRB.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
