Jordan says a raid near the Syrian border has foiled attacks being plotted by the Islamic State (IS) extremist group.
The country's intelligence services said on March 2 that the seven suspected militants killed during the overnight operation in the city of Irbid were planning to target "civilian and military sites in order to destabilize national security."
A security officer was also killed and five were wounded during the raid, which triggered armed clashes.
Irbid is located 20 kilometers from Syria's border.
The kingdom has for years struggled with homegrown Islamists and is part of a U.S.-led coalition battling IS fighters in Syria and Iraq.
Last year, Jordan executed two convicted militants following the killing of a Jordanian pilot who was captured by IS militants after his jet crashed in Syria.
