A free media is guaranteed in law. However, legal suits have been brought against a number of media outlets on slander or libel charges. Four weekly newspapers are independent of the government and freely criticize it. There are public and private television stations. Of six radio stations, the main broadcaster is overseen by a statutory body not directly controlled by the government.
