Although information could not be found on these subjects among the sources consulted by the DIRB, please consult the attachments for information on the general condition of children in India. The Xinhua attachment of 7 May 1993 refers to a welfare scheme launched by the Indian government for that fiscal year that was directed at street children in the 11 most populated cities.

The attachment from The New Encyclopaedia Britannica offers a brief description of Punjab and its education and health and welfare systems.

Please consult Response to Information Request IND21399.E of 1 September 1995, available at Regional Documentation Centres, for general information on the situation of minors in India, particularly in Punjab.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
