Tajikistan's lower house of parliament has approved amendments to the law that would ban individuals with dual citizenship from serving in the Central Asian nation's security services.
Presenting the bill to lawmakers on November 2, the first deputy of the State Committee for National Security, Mansurjon Umarov, said the goal of the amendments was to prevent classified information from being leaked.
The proposed legislation now has to be approved by the house of parliament and then signed by President Emomali Rahmon to become law.
It is unclear whether any Tajiks with dual citizenship were working in security agencies.
The majority of Tajiks with dual citizenship are holders of Russian passports.
