Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS): ECOWAS Commission

The ECOWAS Executive Secretariat was restructured into a Commission, effective as of 1 January 2007. The restructuring was accompanied by the adoption of a new legal regime for Community Acts (i.e. Supplementary Acts, Regulations, Directives, Decisions, Recommendations and Opinions). The Commission adopts Rules for the implementation of Acts enacted by Community Council of Ministers. These Rules have the same legal force as Acts enacted by Council. The Commission makes recommendations and gives advice. Recommendations and advice are not enforceable. Website: www.comm.ecowas.int/
