Reports describing the treatment of Seventh Day Adventists in Yugoslavia beyond that contained in the United States Annual Report on International Religious Freedom for 2002 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) notes on its Website that it carries out projects in Yugoslavia and has been active there since 1990 (n.d.). Likewise, the Adventist Church on its Website notes that Yugoslavia is among the countries in which the church carries out "evangelistic initiatives" (n.d.). However, neither of these two Adventist Websites nor the Adventist news network report ill treatment of Adventists in Yugoslavia in 2002.
The United States Annual Report on International Religious Freedom for 2002 states that in contrast to previous year's report there were no incidences reported in which Adventists experienced difficulty constructing or renovating churches, although the home of an Adventist preacher was reportedly stoned in October 2001 (7 Oct. 2002.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
