A professor of political science specializing in this geographical area states that up to 10 May 1989, there was no evidence that the abovementioned activities were occurring. This information is based on recent meetings he had with the expatriate Tamil community in London, England. The professor adds, however, that the situation may have changed following the Sri Lankan government's talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), as the JVP opposes granting concessions to the Tamil minority.
