In a 9 November 2001 telephone interview, a representative of the High Commission for Cameroon in Ottawa stated that a passport applicant in Cameroon must provide, with the application, a birth certificate, four photos, revenue stamps, his/her national identity card and another identification document. Depending on the circumstances, a certificate of nationality, a tax clearance certificate and a certificate of loss of passport can also be required (ibid.).

Attached please find a copy of the passport application form from the High Commission for the Republic of Cameroon Website. The representative of the High Commission for Cameroon stated that although this form is basically identical to the form used in Cameroon, it has been adapted to the circumstances of Cameroon citizens in Canada (9 Nov. 2001).

No report of Cameroon passports being denied on the basis of ethnic or linguistic affiliations could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
