Fifteen Tajik workers have been brutally beaten in an early morning attack on a Moscow construction site, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Seven of the victims remain in hospital with various injuries.
Some 20 people stormed the site at about 7 a.m. and attacked the Tajik construction workers. They fled after the attack, and 12 ambulances were sent to the scene.
Russian Interior Ministry pledged last week to prevent any possible attacks by nationalists on April 20, Adolf Hitler's birthday.
Dmitry Dyomushkin – leader of the radical, Russian-based nationalist group the Slavic Union – told the BBC on the eve of the attack that some extremists planned to mark Hitler's birthday by attacking migrants and foreigners. But he said the neo-Nazis were acting autonomously, not in connection with his party.
Well-known human rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina expressed surprise that the Interior Ministry did not take sufficient measures to stop attacks from taking place on the given day.
