Canada says it will recognize Libya's rebel council as the country's sole representative, adding its voice to several other nations, starting with France.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird told the House of Commons that "Canada will ... recognize the NTC (National Transitional Council) as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people going forward."
Baird spoke as he formally sought approval for an extension to Canada's contribution to NATO's Libyan mission.
The approval is reportedly assured due to the Conservative government having a majority of seats in the House of Commons.
