BISHKEK – Some 150 people have protested at the Kyrgyz parliament against the proposed appointment of several judges to a new judicial council, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
The protesters claim that some of the candidates for the council, which will select and appoint other judges, have been involved in wrongdoing in the past.
The protesters met with human rights activist Aziza Abdirasilova earlier on June 30 to discuss their objections.
Earlier, President Roza Otunbaeva said that the formation of the council was nearly finished.
She added that once formed, the council will assess and then reappoint the entire pool of judges in Kyrgyzstan.
