Egyptian security forces have clashed with supporters of the banned Muslim Brotherhood in the capital, Cairo, while at least one person has been killed in protests in the southern part of the country.
Police fired tear gas on December 27 at student protesters chanting against the military at Cairo's Al-Azhar University.
Clashes were also reported in two other districts of Cairo.
The death happened in the city of Samalut in Minya Province south of Cairo when one person was killed during clashes with police.
The Interior Ministry said 147 people have been arrested during protests by Muslim Brotherhood supporters.
The Muslim Brotherhood, the party of ousted Islamist President Muhammad Morsi, announced new protests against a decision to brand the group as terrorists.
Egypt has seen increasing unrest and a wave of attacks blamed on Islamic militants since the overthrow of Morsi in July.
