A helicopter shot down near Slovyansk was carrying 14 Ukrainian servicemen including General [Sergiy] Kulchitsky, parliamentary speaker Olexandr Turchinov announced at the Supreme Rada, Espreso TV's correspondent reports.
"I want you to understand that a real war is taking place. I have just received news that terrorists used a Russian hand-held ground-to-air rocket to down one of our helicopters that was taking troops out on rotation. Fourteen soldiers were killed, including General Kulchitsky," Turchinov said. "Let us stand to observe a minute's silence."
It was reported earlier that a helicopter from the counter-terrorism forces was shot down near Slovyansk. There were no survivors.
