Current information on the pattern of call-up to reserve duty is currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa.

A representative of the Department of State in Washington, DC, and a writer for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in Munich, both have indicated that historically there has been animosity and distrust between the Romanian Intelligence Services (SRI) and the military, and as a result there has been little cooperation between the two (9 June 1994; 9 June 1994). These sources were unable to provide information on whether the Romanian Intelligence Services (SRI) would be able to use military call-up notices to find individuals.

The writer for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in Munich also indicated that the military has its own secret service (ibid.).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
