A 3 February 1999 letter sent to the Research Directorate by the chair of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia in Belgrade states:

There have been no reports of maltreatment of members of the National Peasant Party either by the state or by the society in general. National Peasant Party, headed by Mr. Dragan Veselinov, is a very small party, without any significant voting body. Lately (since the outbreak of the Kosovo conflict in early 1998) this party has been getting closer and closer to the ruling party and its nationalistic ideology.

No corroborating or additional information on the treatment of members of the National Peasant Party in Yugoslavia could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
