A precise measurement of the distance between Hargeisa (Somalia) and the Dul'ad refugee camp in Ethiopia could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC (Dul'ad, also spelled Doulad and Dulad in some documents, is another name for the Harta Sheik or Hartisheik refugee camp). The only maps available indicating the approximate location of the Dul'ad camp are in a very reduced scale.
Estimates of road distance and travel time between the two locations cannot be made by the IRBDC since, as indicated in the attachments of the Response to Information Request ETH10918 of 21 may 1992 and other documents, the roads and geography present various difficulties. As indicated in that Response, published sources provide differing estimates of the distance between Hartisheik and the nearby city of Jijiga (also spelled Jiggiga in some documents).
Please find attached a detailed section of a map showing the location of Hargeisa and providing conversion bars for miles and kilometres. Simplified maps showing the approximate location of the Dul'ad or Hartisheik camp can be found among the attachments of Response to Information Request ETH10918.
