North Korea has announced that Kim Jong Un, the son of the late leader Kim Jong Il, has assumed the "supreme commandership" of the nation's million-soldier military.
A statement from North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency said Kim Jong Un was given the title at a meeting December 30 of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party Of Korea.
The statement said the title was bestowed in line with a will made by Kim Jong Il on October 8.
Since his father's death on December 17, Kim Jong Un has already been declared the supreme leader of the communist-ruled country.
With some 1.2 million soldiers, North Korea's military is the world's fourth largest army.
