According to information provided by the Website of Cento (an Italian municipality), the Italian Identity card (Carta d'Identita) is [official translation] "an identification document that is issued to persons 15 years of age or older, is valid for five years from the date of issue and can be used for emigration in EEC countries." In order to obtain the ID card, the applicant must meet the following requirements: "[official translation] be 15 years of age or older; hold Italian citizenship, or if a foreigner, be listed at an Italian registry office (in the case of foreigners, the identity card is not valid for emigration)."
